parents - teachers meeting

This year the annual parents’ teachers’ meeting was held on 17th August 2013 at the CTAS campus. The purpose of the meeting was to create a platform for the parents and teachers to have an open communication and discuss the performance of their children at CTAS. [READ MORE]

AMITY group of association workshop

A total of 22 students, comprising both boys and girls from the final year class of Patra(Wood carving), Lhadi (Painting) and weaving together with one teacher from CTAS took part in a 4 day workshop with the AMITY group of association from Thailand jointly organized by the Agency for Promotion of Indigenous Crafts, National Institute for Zorig Chusum in co-ordination with the Nehru Wangchuck Cultural Center in Thimphu from 19th to 22nd August. south asian bazaar exhibition, new delhi

Sangay Tshering Pelden from 4th year, embroidery section participated as one of the exhibitor representing Bhutan through the Tarayana Foundation, during the South Asian Bazaar Exhibition held at Kisan Haat, Andheria Modh, New Delhi from 23rd August to 1st September 2013. The Exhibition was organized by the Dastkat society in association with Delhi Tourism to bring together the cultural richness and diversity of south Asian countries namely India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal and Bhutan. Mrs. Phyllis Bergman, RN, MSN Health Educator visits CTAS

On 30th August 2013, Mrs. Phyllis Bergman, a Gynaecologist visited CTAS and held a talk with the girls in the MP Hall at CTAS. During the 1 hr 30 minutes speech, the doctor explained to the girls about the importance of personal hygiene, menstruation, sexually transmitted diseases and protection against unwanted pregnancy. The talk was followed by an open discussion on the topic and to clarify any doubts or misconceptions that the students had. [READ MORE]

Final year students program

Every year CTAS invites resource person who are professional and experts in their respective field of traditional arts and crafts to share their expertise and provide feedback and suggestions on the work of our final year students. This program is particularly designed for the final year students to contemplate on all the new skills that they have learned during their training period at CTAS and use this program as a final opportunity to clarify any doubts and seek expert opinion and advice on their performance from the resource persons visiting CTAS. Mr. Barry Buxkamper and Linda visit to CTAS

Mr. Barry Buxkamper, an American artist who taught at the art University for the last 30 years visited CTAS on 4th Oct together with Mrs. Linda Leaming, who is a friend and who has strong interest in CTAS. Mr. Barry shared his ideas and methodology of doing western art with the students of CTAS. He talked about the modern contemporary art and the various techniques of creating a masterpiece. Mr. Koenraad and his friends visit to CTAS

On 27th October 2013, Mr. Koenraad Foulon accompanied by Ms. Lynne, Mr. Lam and Ms. Anh visited CTAS. It was a privilege for all the students, staff and the Choki family to meet them again in Bhutan. The school hosted a small reception at the campus to welcome our distinguished guests to CTAS with the traditional marching ceremony (offering wine to the divine spirits) followed by a welcome speech by the principal and thanked Mr. Koenraad for his continued unwavering support to the school. The Fire department visits CTAS  

The fire department in Thimphu visited CTAS on the 25th October 2013 and carried out a site visit on fire safety and prevention. The team was headed by the superintendent of police (SP) and the officer in command (OC). Following the site visit, the team shared their observation and made some recommendations to improve fire safety and prevention methods at CTAS. [READ MORE]

Annual School Picnic

This year the annual school picnic was held on 9th November 2013 in a new venue at Namselling which is approximately 3 KM south of Thimphu City. Usually held at Pangrizampa which is 7 KM north of Thimphu city, CTAS decided to change the venue based on feedback and recommendations from students and teachers to experience a new site. Mario and Elsa Fontana visit to CTAS

On 15th November 2013, Mr. Mario Fontana (President of Fontana Foundation) and Mrs. Elsa Fontana visited CTAS. The principal, staff and students extended a warm welcome to them followed by a traditional marching ceremony. In the welcome address, the principal thanked Mr. Mario and Fontana Foundation for their continued support and guidance to CTAS. Final year in-country study tour

This year the final year study tour was held from 18th till 27th November 2013. A total of 18 final year students participated in the 10 day study trip which covered 6 districts in Bhutan namely Paro, Punakha, Trongsa, Bumthang, Mongar and Trashiyangtse in the extreme east. During the course of the study tour, students visited many ancient temples, monasteries, dzongs, art and craft institutes, handicrafts and interacted with many prominent artists and craftsman in the country. Norbu Wangchuk share’s his experience at CTAS

 Norbu Wangchuk is one of the graduating students in 2013 from painting department. He is 24 years old and comes from Dratshi, Narang under Mongar District. He is the eldest amongst four children. Both his parents are farmers and work in the field. He has studied up till class nine and has interest to learn art. Earlier, he applied in the National Institute of Zorigchusum (Government Art school). Unfortunately he did not meet the admission criteria and he could not get enrolled in the art school. Later when he came to know about CTAS, he was overjoyed and his dream came alive once again.  This is what he shared during his graduation ceremony.... [READ MORE]

Phub Dorji share his success Story

My name is Phub Dorji, I am one of the graduating students from wood carving section. I come from Khomshar, Bardho from Zhemgang district. My parents got divorced when I was very young. I am the eldest among the children and I have three younger brothers and three younger sisters. My mother couldn’t support me and I have come to this school in hope to study wood carving and help my mother and family. I feel very privilege to receive 2013 topper prize from my department (wood carving). [READ MORE]

5 additional BERNINA machine received at CTAS

In Sept 2013, CTAS has received 5 additional BERNINA sewing machine after our proposal to Sabine Sceiner, Sales Manager of BERNINA, Switzerland. Our students were delighted to receive these additional sewing machines as it has eased the pressure of accommodating more students from the embroidery section who are very interested to take up the sewing class as well.  [READ MORE]

Graduation farewell event

On the 30th November 2013, a graduation farewell event was held at the CTAS campus to mark the successful completion of training for our passing out graduates. For the first time, CTAS has achieved a record number of 18 graduates this year. We have 9 students from the painting department and 9 students from the wood carving department who are successfully completing their training at CTAS.  [READ MORE]
